Hand-Cast African Folk Art Chess Set

Auction Ended

A truly unique and expressive chess set where folk-art storytelling meets refined craftsmanship.
The chess pieces are hand-cast in bronze/brass using the traditional lost-wax method, likely from the Ashanti/Akan region of West Africa. Each figure is sculpted with personality: villagers, musicians, elders, riders, and symbolic thatched houses used as the rooks. No two pieces are exactly alike — every figure has its own posture, gesture and charm.

The set is paired with a high-quality original Manopoulos enamel board, known for its weight, shine and durability. The deep blue enamel squares contrast beautifully against the warm golden metal of the pieces, giving this set a strong visual presence whether displayed or played.

A functional game set — but equally a decorative statement piece for a living room, office, coffee table or studio.
The board measures 36,5 cm x 36,5 cm and the pieces vary between 4,5 and 6,5 cm.

Free shipping offered! Carefully packed with bubble wrap, in a sturdy box.
